Jen + Sarah: Central Eastside Portland and Laurelhurst Park Wedding

When Jen and Sarah booked me for their summer wedding, I felt so lucky to be the one documenting their day. They designed an intimate Portland wedding that centered around the two of them and their love story. They included their closest friends and family, and since travel is limited right now, they live-streamed their ceremony and first dance. Weddings and elopements in 2020 have had so many different twists and turns, but I have been inspired by the creativity and flexibility couples have shown us. Especially Jen and Sarah!

They got ready together at Hotel Eastlund on Portland’s Eastside. Getting ready together is one of my favorite ways for a couple to make their day about each other and to intentionally spend time together. Sarah put on Jen’s makeup, and these were such sweet and special moments to document. They had so many unique accessories and details, like their bouquets they had made together the night before and Sarah’s killer Spanish leather loafers.

Jen and Sarah wanted an industrial, edgy vibe for their couple photos, so we went to a few different spots on the Central Eastside that I had scouted out the week before. Their ceremony was at Laurelhurst Park, my favorite park in the entire city because of the many trees, paved pathways, pond and perfect lighting. When we arrived at the park, we found a secluded place for Jen and Sarah to read letters they had written for the other.

The couple walked down the wooded aisle at Laurelhurst Park to Macklemore’s “Same Love,” surrounded by bubbles from Sarah’s adorable nephews. Their friend Cece was ordained to officiate their ceremony, and they recited such genuine and loving vows. Another friend Melissa wasn’t able to travel to their Portland wedding, but recorded herself singing Leon Bridges’ gorgeous song “Beyond” for their first dance. She is an amazingly talented singer and you can hear her soulful version below. :)

Their friend Lea not only made the incredible triangular arbor for the ceremony, but baked delicious cupcakes and macarons for the reception. They spent the rest of the day connecting with their guests over toasts and laughs in end of summer light.

This Central Eastside and Laurelhurst Park wedding was pure magic and I’m so thankful to know Jen and Sarah.
